ARTIST STATEMENT

     Woods was born in Southfield, MI where he started his college career at College for Creative Studies in Detroit studying Graphic Communications & Advertising Design. After 2 years in downtown Detroit, Woods left the mitten in search for something better in Chicago.

In the windy city, he met several OG graffiti writers and joined crews such as UAC, United Artist Crew, with rapper Common. With UAC, everyone needed to contributed to local youth groups teaching kids to put down weapons and put up things like graffiti, break dancing, rapping and DJing, while also being a hooligan in TCK and FTR where he was a bit more rambunctious.

Here in Chicago, woods arrived to pursue photography at Columbia College Chicago where he received his Bachelors of Fine Arts. Focusing on Editorial/Portrait/Fashion photography.

     In 2014, Woods became a Visual Display Coordinator for Anthropologie where he further developed his fine art skills ultimately being invited to become a prototype artist. Only 1 year later, he was invited to move to their newest store at Ponce City Market in Atlanta, GA to use their new space for window display prototyping. When not developing new designs for the company, he is designing, fabricating and installing all visual elements within the store from fixtures to window displays.

     On top of Photography, Woods also has 15+ years experience as a Display Coordinator/Visual Project Manager/Merchandiser for companies like: Nike, Adidas, Dior, Top Shop, Burberry, Columbia, Zara, T-Mobile/Sprint, Red Bull, Lollapalooza, Under Armor, and Born Shoes.

After a bit of a life roadblock loosing is father, Woods decided to take a break from Anthropologie to take on some independent projects, starting with designing, fabricating and installing everything for Cobbler Union’s newest location at the Shops of Buckhead in Atlanta. When finished, COVID hit the world and all retail shut down. After a bit of a world hiatus, he would himself leaving the south for the East Bay of California to focus his enthusiasm of growth with the same company, URBN, to become the Senior Display Artist for Urban Outfitters at their Flagship store in San Francisco.

At UO, he overlooked and built the entire Bay Area’s stores visuals, helped relocate/design the new location in Emeryville, CA and would tackle projects special to his Union Square location for companies like Levi, Polaroid, Parade, and musical artists like Christian Kuria.

Since leaving Urban Outfitters, Woods has worked with One Hat One Hand as a Lead Fabricator, a Technician and Photobooth Operator for Photomatica and 3 years along side William Osman & The Backyard Scientist, the creators of Open Sauce working with Adam Savage of Mythbusters and You Tuber Mark Rober, one of the creators of the NASA Mars Rover and founder of Crunch Labs.

Once specializing in photography, he is now focusing his time with woodworking, fine art, 3D design/printing, graphic design, graffiti/murals and aerial photography. Woods is an award winning artist with artwork regularly being shown to thousands daily from the Grand Rapids Children's Hospital to the Nunan Times with artwork on display Georgia Historical Society.
